SBV Sanitary Ball Valve
Alfa Laval SBV Hygienic Ball Valve
The Alfa Laval Sanitary Ball Valve (SBV) is a hygienic Ball Valve designed with a bore diameter the same size as the pipeline diameter. The full-bore design with zero flow restriction and minimum pressure drop makes the SBV the optimum choice to handle high-viscosity or particulate liquids. It is also ideal for use in pigging systems to prevent product waste and optimise plant performance.
The Alfa Laval SBV is ideal for use as a hygienic product Valve across the Dairy, Food, Beverage, Brewery, Chemical and many other industries.
SBV Sanitary Ball Valve Benefits
- Constant pipeline diameter, enabling fluids to flow freely
- Compact, straightforward hygienic design
- Versatile operation with automated or manual control
- Durable and water hammer-safe
- Easy to clean (optional cavity filler or cavity cleaning)

SBV Sanitary Ball Valve Key Features
Reliable Full-Flow Performance
The Alfa Laval Sanitary Ball Valves (SBVs) are ideal for handling viscous fluids or those containing solid, semi-solid, or abrasive particles. They are particularly suitable for applications where pigging of process lines is essential, ensuring efficient product recovery. Additionally, SBVs provide gentle product treatment, making them perfect for sensitive applications, and they are also well-suited for Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) procedures, facilitating effective sanitation and maintenance.
Automated or Manual Control
Alfa Laval Sanitary Ball Valves (SBVs) offer flexibility in operation, available for both manual and automatic use. For manual operation, the Valves come equipped with stainless steel quarter-turn handles that securely lock them in either the open or closed position. In automatic mode, SBVs utilise standard maintenance-free pneumatic actuators, typically delivered as normally closed (NC) Valves, which can be controlled remotely using compressed air. These actuators can be easily reconfigured to a normally open (NO) setup if needed. Additionally, actuators can be integrated with Alfa Laval ThinkTop Valve sensing and control units, with optional inductive proximity sensors and mounting brackets available for enhanced functionality.
Compact, Simple Ball Valve Design
Easy to build into most any process line, Alfa Laval SBVs feature a straightforward floating ball design, which guarantees a tight seal and permits axial movement while preventing rotation. They are water hammer-safe and completely insensitive to pressure shocks in the pipelines. Spring-loaded, self-adjusting seal rings provide highly reliable Valve stem sealing. SBVs with automated control have inspection holes in the bonnet for easy inspection of the stem seal.
Easy-to-Maintain Ball Valves
The three-piece Valve design with few moving parts enables easy access to all Valve components, making maintenance quick and easy. Durable PTFE Valve seats help prolong service intervals. No special tools required for maintenance.
How the SBV Sanitary Ball Valve Works
The SBV Sanitary Ball Valve has a precision-made ball with full bore positioned between two flanges and two PTFE Valve seats in the Valve body. Rotating the Valve stem 90° opens or closes the Valve. Long lifetime is secured by a specially selected PTFE-grade material.
Spring-loaded, self-adjusting seal rings ensure the Valve stem seals reliably. The Valve is operated by a pneumatic actuator or by a manual handle with lockable positions. Valve screws make disassembly for inspection and maintenance easy.
