The Alfa Laval SaniMidget Retractor is a version of the SaniMidget Rotary Spray Head that is retractable. The tank cleaning head retracts and isolates from contact with the vessel or duct contents automatically once it finishes cleaning. Machine components that contact cleaning media or product are designed to self-clean and self-drain. The device can be used in ducts, dryers, vessels and tanks where internal components or contours make placing permanently installed cleaning machines complicated. It is suitable for storage and mixing tanks and reactors between 0.1 and 10 m3 (27 to 2,700 US gallons).
Working principle
The SaniMidget Retractor comes with two retracting mechanism style options: Pneumatic Driven, which uses air pressure to extend and withdraw the cleaning head, and Media Driven, which uses cleaning media pressure to extend the cleaning head, and an integrated spring to retract it. The media flow drives the cleaner head, which starts rotating, creating fans of fluid in a swirling pattern.

As the SaniMidget Retractor Spray Head rotates, its fan-shaped jets produce a swirling pattern throughout the vessel or ductwork. This generates the wetting/impact needed for the efficient removal of the residual product.
Rotary spray heads like the SaniMidget Retractor effectively clean tanks using less water, less energy and less cleaning agents than Static Spray Balls. This helps reduce consumption of high-purity water and chemicals.
Generally speaking, routine inspection is the only maintenance required for Alfa Laval Rotary Spray Head devices. These devices are so reliable that a single device in many cases can meet the requirements of a plant over its entire lifetime. The SaniMidget Retractor is lubricated by the cleaning media it dispenses.
