GJ 4 Industrial Jet Head

Alfa Laval GJ 4
Industrial Jet Head

The Alfa Laval GJ 4 is an Industrial Jet Head tank cleaning machine, intended for use in industrial environments. Designed to clean tanks between 150-2250 m3 in volume, it pairs flow and pressure create high impact cleaning jets that follow a repeatable and regular 360-degree cleaning pattern.

The GJ 4 minimises water and cleaning media consumption, and the gear train, which uses food-grade lubricants, protects the machine from particle damage that could be sustained during operation. Customisable to meet user needs, it allows companies to allocate less time to cleaning and more to production.

The Alfa Laval GJ 4 is designed to reliably remove the toughest sediments from tanks in a broad range of industries, such as chemicals, pulp and paper, ethanol, starch, and oil.

Other Specifications

Parts are machined from 316-L Stainless Steel investment castings or bar stock.
New Features: Streamlined turbine and internal flow passages, including a patented porting design that significantly improves efficiency.

Standard: 2″ NPT female and 2 1/2″ quick disconnect male
Optional: 2″ NPT female and 2 1/2″ NST (NH) hose thread male

Investment cast parts of type 316 stainless steel ensure consistent strength & quality for higher pressure ratings. Shafts: Rotor shaft and gearbox shafts are made of hardened stainless steel. For increased wear resistance, the rotor shaft is supplied with a plasma-sprayed ceramic or other protective coating. The rotor shaft is also fitted with a polished carbide thrust washer for added durability.

Rotor shaft bearings are tungsten carbide. Gearbox shaft bearings in flow-through (oilless) gearboxes are PTFE or other non-cupric materials. Standard bearings in oil-lubricated gearboxes are Oilite bronze with nonmetallic bearings available as an option.

O-ring materials are selected for each application. Viton is standard.

A new gear system of improved design and construction is incorporated in GJ 4 models for increased wear life: All gears are manufactured entirely of selected stainless steel alloys and the two bottom gears are fitted with long-life tungsten carbide thrust washers.

Interchangeable nozzles are now available in twelve sizes from 15.9mm down to 4.5 mm. Nozzle sizes of 6.35 mm and smaller are offered with new tungsten carbide inserts for improved jet wear at high pressures.

Lubrication, Gearbox Sealed: Oil-lubricated machines have a sealed gearbox filled with FDA approved oil.

Flo-thru: The flo-thru gearbox is lubricated by the cleaning solution. With this option, maintenance of gearbox seals is eliminated.

Lubrication, Waterside: A controlled amount of the cleaning solution is permitted to flow through the tee and nozzle housing bearings for lubrication and cooling.

A low-pressure bypass system keeps the bevel gears and other internal parts flushed free of debris that could interfere with proper functioning.

How the GJ 4 Works

The flow of the cleaning fluid makes the nozzles perform a geared rotation around the vertical and horizontal axes. The high-impact jet stream from the Alfa Laval GJ 4 Rotary Jet Head covers the entire surface of the tank interior in a successively denser pattern. This achieves a powerful mechanical impact with a low volume of water and cleaning media.

In the first cycle, the nozzles lay out a coarse pattern on the tank surface. The subsequent cycles gradually make the pattern denser until a complete cleaning pattern is reached, after which the machine will start over and perform the next full pattern.
