SRU Application

The Alfa Laval SRU Rotary Lobe Pump provides high-efficiency fluid transfer, maximising uptime while minimising contamination risks and maintenance costs. Its low-pulsation, low-shear pumping action transfers media of varying viscosities with ease, and the modular design provides great flexibility to tailor a pump to meet specific process requirements.

How the SRU Rotary Lobe Pump Works

A gear train in the pump gearbox drives and accurately synchronises the tri-lobe rotors. The movement of the counter-rotating rotors creates a partial vacuum that allows atmospheric pressure or other external pressures to force fluid into the pump chamber. As the rotors revolve, and the blades disengage, an expanding cavity is formed that fills with fluid. When the cavity diminishes, as the blades engage again, this fluid is displaced into the outlet port.

Alfa Laval SRU Pump FAQs

An SRU Rotary Lobe Pump is a positive displacement pump commonly used in industries where precise and gentle handling of liquids is essential. It features two lobes that rotate in opposite directions to move liquid through the pump without pulsation, making it ideal for sensitive or high-viscosity fluids. These pumps are widely used in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing.

The SRU Rotary Lobe Pumps are ideal for industries requiring gentle handling of sensitive or high-viscosity liquids. Common applications include food processing, dairy, beverage production, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. They are particularly suited for transferring products like creams, syrups, sauces, and yeast suspensions.

These pumps meet rigorous hygiene standards, including 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA compliance, and EHEDG certification.

Yes, SRU pumps are designed for easy maintenance with modular construction and readily available spare parts. The design allows for quick disassembly and replacement of seals or other components, minimising downtime.

The SRU pumps are energy efficient and support Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) and Sterilisation-in-Place (SIP) systems, which reduce water and chemical usage, supporting sustainable operations.
