How the SolidC Centrifugal Pump Works

Designed for Cleaning-in-Place (CIP), the Alfa Laval SolidC is ideal for basic duties across the Dairy, Food, Beverage and Personal Care industries in which hygienic treatment is required. Typical applications are pumping of CIP solutions, utilities, cooling or heating water, and other simple transport duties.

SolidC Centrifugal Pumps are available in four different models that are capable of handling flow rates up to 90 m3/h, pressure heads up to 80 metres (8 bar) and inlet pressures up to 40 metres (4 bar).

Unique Impeller Design
2 Unique Impeller Design
The semi-open impeller with a special multi-vane design ensures particularly low NPSHr (Net Positive Suction Head required). This helps prevent cavitation and minimises the risk of Pump damage.

The impeller also features balancing holes that enhance circulation around the shaft seal and reduce axial forces. This maximises cleanability while minimising wear on the shaft seal and motor bearings.
Shaft Seal
4 Optimised Shaft Seal

As standard, the SolidC Pump is equipped with a single mechanical shaft seal, but is also available with a single flushed mechanical shaft seal. The secondary seal of the flushed seal is a long-lasting lip seal. The front-loading shaft seal, with the spring and washers mounted on the atmospheric side, makes maintenance fast, easy and inexpensive, taking just a few minutes to replace. In addition, the balanced design minimises the risk of seal opening during unforeseen pressure shock.
One-Piece Pump Housing
5 External Shaft Seal
The Pump housing is made of a sturdy single piece of stainless steel. There is therefore no need to disconnect or remove the Pump casing from the process line during inspection or maintenance. This feature, combined with a front-loading seal, helps keep downtime to a minimum and saves time and money. This also means that, if required, a spare Pump without casing can quickly be put into place.
Compression Couplings

The compression coupling securely attaches the stub shaft to the motor shaft with precision alignment. Setup is simple, operations secure and noise and vibration minimised. This helps prolong the service life of both shaft seal and motor.
