A Complete Clean for a Chilled Prepared Food Company's IBCs

The Client

Our client is a chilled prepared food company with a drive to be the UK’s No 1 in its sector. The business places a key focus on nutrition, sustainability and affordable food for all. At the same time, it is seeking to reduce its impact on the environment, with a target of achieving Net Zero in its production, whilst also contributing to the well-being of the communities it supports.

The Challenge

Cleaning over 35 IBCs per day was not only becoming time-consuming, but was resulting in an increase in water usage. In addition, the current process of cleaning the IBCs was not meeting the customer’s high standards. Olives were becoming trapped in the outlet drain, and the existing hand-held lance used was not flushing them out, but jetting them around within the IBC. This resulted in the operator needing to manually remove the olives before giving a final rinse.

As a result, our customer was seeking a system that would provide a guaranteed repeatable 360° cleaning performance and remove all the olives, whilst also reducing both water and power usage – increasing sustainability.

The Solution

Understanding the customer’s pain points was key to offering the right IBC cleaning solution – one that was both sustainable and effective. We carried out an on-site cleaning trial using our IBC demo system, and the results spoke for themselves:

  • The high impact Rotary Jet Cleaning Head blasted the olives out of the outlet drain and, in some cases, even cut them in half.
  • Where the IBCs were once taking 20 minutes to clean, they were now cleaning in less than 5 minutes, allowing the operator to be reassigned in the production area.
  • The high levels of cleaning performance expected by the client were now not only being achieved, but as the system was fully automated, with three pre-set cleaning times, (1. Pre-Rinse/Anti-Foam 2. Chemical Wash 3. Final Rinse) it could guarantee a 360° repeatable clean.
  • Due to this automation, the customer also calculated that they would save around 2,450 hours per year in labour costs.
  • Water savings were also calculated, with an annual saving of more than 3,185,000 litres per year.
